Jonathan Arthur Stone Obituary (1988 - 2018)

Jonathan Arthur Stone, 29, of Greeneville, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Greeneville. Jonathan was born on September 19, 1988 in Jacksonville NC. He loved growing up in a large military family where he received a homeschool education and was able to travel much of the U.S and some parts of the world, including Japan. He came to know the love and grace of a relationship with Jesus Christ at a very early age. His enthusiasm for adventure and the outdoors grew with his time as a Boy Scout where he became an Eagle Scout. He also was proud to have hiked the complete Appalachian Trail. After graduation from Greeneville High School, he spent 5 years as a Naval sonar technician aboard the USS Georgia, SSGN-729, stationed in Kings Bay, Georgia, where he described being "the eyes and ears of the submarine." He was a current student at Bryan College in Dayton, TN where he was on the varsity basketball team. He was studying business in hopes of one day opening a Pal's restaurant. His passion for basketball began during his years at Greeneville High School and later led him to encourage the love of the game with his peers at the Greeneville YMCA. His family and closest friends remember Jonathan as a loyal friend, joyful, easy to be with, a fierce competitor, fun-loving uncle, movie director aficionado, trivia guru, organizer personified, story teller, corn ball, rap master, poet, dreamer, dunk king, junk food loyalist, VHS and DVD collector, Halo champion, Volunteer fanatic, great listener, jokester, someone with a one-of-a-kind sense of humor, an amazing heart, charisma, awkward in the best way and always the life and light of the room. He loved and cherished time with family, especially during the holidays. He is survived by: parents: Coy and Georgia Stone of Greeneville; two sisters and brother in law; Joanna and Bryon Rossi of Sterling Heights, Michigan and Sarah L. Stone of Greeneville; three Brothers and Sisters in Law: Barton and Sarah E. Stone of Englewood, Colorado; David and Melissa Stone of Cookeville, Tennessee; and Daniel and Victoria Stone of Greeneville; eight nieces and nephews: Pete, Lucy, Jack and Dolly Stone, Jett and Cannon Rossi, Marian Stone, Frederick Stone; Aunts and Uncles: Sarah Urban, Cynthia Rodie, Janet Taylor, Rick and Megan Scheen, Janet and Maurice Tyler; several cousins and friends. Pallbearers are Jonathan's brothers and close friends. Honorary Pallbearers are Coach Don Rekoske and the Bryan Lions Basketball team from Dayton, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 12:00-3:00PM Thursday, May 17, 2018 followed by funeral service at 3:00PM at Jeffers Funeral Chapel in Afton, TN. Barton Stone officiating.
