Mamie Lee Lowe Cooter Obituary (1915 - 2016)

Mamie Lee Lowe Cooter, better known as "Mom Cooter", age 101, passed away, Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at her home. She was surrounded by her three remaining daughters. Mamie has lived in the Oak Ridge area for 71 years and in her current home for 65 years. She was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church, in Chattanooga, TN. Mamie was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mary Ann Berry Lowe and Jacob Lowe; her husband, James Robert Cooter; her daughter, Montie Rose Cooter Johnson; sons in law, Jack Johnson, Robert "Bob" Allen Pierfelice and James "Jim" H. Mahoney, Jr.; and 3 great grandchildren. Mamie was the twelfth child of fourteen children, born to her parents and her thirteen siblings have all passed away. She is survived by her daughters, Ivie Violet Cooter Pierfelice of North Port, Fl, Alice Fern Cooter Stamey and her husband, Charles of Wickliffe, OH, and Lily Christine Cooter Mahoney of Chattanooga; ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren. Being one of 14 children, Mamie has too many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great, greats and great, great, greats to count. Mamie was known in Oak Ridge and to her family not only as a vegetable gardener and canner, but also as a flower gardener. She loved flowers of all kinds and always had a bouquet on her dining room table. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 10am-12pm at Jeffers Funeral Service Downtown. The funeral service will follow visitation in Jeffers Downtown Chapel, with Rev. James Mays officiating. Interment will be in Zion Cemetery at Baileyton.
