NAME: Barbara L. Jones Gray Metcalf AGE: 92 RESIDENCE: of Greeneville PLACE OF DEATH: passed away Saturday June 20, 2009 at the home of her daughter and granddaughter, Judy and Leanna Johnston. She was the widow of Andrew Metcalf, Sr. who passed November 6, 2008. Mrs. Metcalf was of the Baptist tradition of faith DATE OF DEATH: Saturday, June 20, 2009 TIME AND DATE OF FUNERAL: Monday at 7:00 pm June 22, 2009 PLACE OF FUNERAL: Jeffers Funeral Chapel INTERMENT: A Private burial will be at sunrise on Tuesday at 7:00 am at Greene Lawn Memory Gardens, MINISTERS: E. J. Swatsell and Rev. Luther Reed SURVIVORS: Survivors include her children and their spouses Gordon and Sandra Gray of Jonesborough, Buddy and Wilma Gray of Greeneville, Peggy Gray Palmer, of Beaufort, S C, Doug and Brenda Gray of Greeneville, Judy Gray Johnston of Greeneville , John and Ann Metcalf of Ft Worth, Texas, Marjorie Metcalf Darnell of Greeneville, Joe Metcalf of Greeneville, James and Ginger Cross of Greeneville and daughter-in-law Judy Lyons Metcalf of Telford. Her 24 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Hilda and Bill Dearstone, three brothers and two sisters-in-law , Hal and Betty Jones, Max Jones, Jimmy Mack and Betty Jones, one sister-in-law, Jane Jones, Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Special friends and family include: Kathy Cutshaw, Barbara Bowers. Samantha Casteel, Peggy Thomas, Marie Harmon, Vernie and Butch Flynn , Tina Flynn, Margie Crum, Sue Fillers, Geri Williams, Kathleen Jones, Wanda Wisecarver, Margaret and Nathan Humbard, Benjamin Tinsley and “an extra special granddaughter” Leanna Johnston. PRECEEDED IN DEATH: Mrs. Metcalf was preceded in death by her father, W. Horace Jones, Her mother, Eliza Hashbarger Jones Brigman; Her step-father, Dewey Brigman; a brother Lance A. Jones and a sister Norma Gaby ; two sons: Phillip Gray, Sr. and Andrew Metcalf, Jr.: grandchildren: Matilda Barbara Gray, Larry Darnell and Daniel Johnston: great grandchildren: Beau Gentry and Cody Darnell. PALLBEARERS: will be her grandsons and friends of the family HONORARY PALLBEARERS: will be George Syndor, Rev. Lawrence Pack, Clyde Crum, Jr., Jack Bryant, Kevin Swatsell, DR. Brooks Morelock and Staff, Staff of Laughlin Home Health and Staff of Caris Hospice, Lee Carver CHURCH MEMBERSHIP: OCCUPATION: As one of her brothers prepared to be deployed during the Korean War, Mrs. Metcalf became an avid advocate for the American Red Cross Blood drive. Throughout the ensuing years, with three of her brothers and seven of her sons serving in the military, she continuously donated blood, eventually attaining the 13 Gallon Pin.
