Obituary:
At Family Request of family, she passed away instead of died. NAME: Mildred Marie Bowman Jeffers Mrs. Jeffers was born on April 9, 1917 in the Horse Creek Community. She graduated from Chuckey High School (Class of 1936) where she was an outstanding student and athlete. She is quite well known for her excellent basketball skills and would later play senior basketball well into her 70’s. After graduating from East Tennessee Normal School ( now ETSU), she began her teaching career at Forest Hills School and would continue her career in the Greene county School System until she retired in 1975. She is fondly remembered by many of her students as a wonderful if not a strict teacher. She was affectionately Called “Peanut” and Mimi. She married Willard Lowery Jeffers on April 30, 1939. They were married for 54 years and had one child, Eddie Bowman Jeffers. She was very active in her church, Albright United Methodist, and was a member for approximately 70 years. She taught the women’s Sunshine Class a member of the choir, Secretary of United Methodist women and Church historian AGE: 92 RESIDENCE: of the Rheatown Community PLACE OF DEATH: Mrs. Mildred Jeffers passed away on Thursday July 2 at Laughlin Health Care Center. DATE OF DEATH: TIME AND DATE OF FUNERAL: Sunday at 5:00 pm July 5, 2009 PLACE OF FUNERAL: Jeffers Funeral Chapel INTERMENT: Graceland Memorial Gardens MINISTERS: Rev Richard Bowers, Rev Ronald Davis and Rev Dwight Kenney SURVIVORS: by her daughter-in-law Brenda Jeffers, two grandchildren and grandson-in-law, John Jeffers of Highlands NC , Suzanne Jeffers Waybright and her husband Jeff and one great-grandchild, Matthew Barton Waybright, all of Johnson City, sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Glenn Broyles of Chuckey. niece and her husband Teresa and Eddie Kilday; great niece Tonya Shell; Brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Rex B and Helen Jeffers of Tusculum and Mauveline Jeffers of Sulpher Springs and Mary Ruth Jeffers of Johnson City; Several Dear nieces and nephews and cousins of the Bowman, Johnson and Jeffers Families PRECEEDED IN DEATH: Beloved Husband Willard L. Jeffers, Son Eddie Jeffers, Parents Orville and Flora Bowman, and infant brother Billy Bowman PALLBEARERS: Ted Wilhoit, Dewey Thomas and Nephews HONORARY PALLBEARERS: Members of Albright U.
