Earland L O'Dell Obituary (2019) - Greeneville, Tennessee

Earland L. O'Dell, 84 of the Horse Creek community, (a native of Greene County, born in 1934 in the Whitesand community, later moving to the Horse Creek community in 1945) went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Johnson City Medical Center. He is survived by wife of 63 years: Gloriana Moore O'Dell; four daughters and sons-in-law: Jane and Berkeley Bell, Star and Jimmy Mercer, Paula and Bobby Morrison, Buffy and Richard Bales; son and daughter-in-law: Chris and Andrea O'Dell; grandchildren: Erica and Holden Penley, Berkeley Bell III, Samuel Bell, Robinson and Misty Mercer, Bradley and Chelsea Mercer, Spencer Mercer, Chelsea and Brandon Bailey, Landon and Catherine Morrison, Eli Bales, Chloe Bales, Ira Bales, Nelson O'Dell, Summer O'Dell, and Bransen O'Dell; great grandchildren: Braxton Bell, Jackson Vick, Kyleigh and Trenton Mercer, Kate and Mason Mercer; one sister and brother-in-law: Gwondola and R. L. Anderson; sister-in-law: Linda O'Dell; brother-in-law: Bob Shaw; several nieces and nephews, including two special: Gail O'Dell and Brenda Wilson; special friends: Mr. and Mrs. Bailey and caregiver, Christle Griffiths. He is preceded in death by parents: Porter and Myrtle O'Dell; three brothers: Frank, "Little" Jackie, and Tony O'Dell; three sisters: Geraldean Mitchell, Marcine Johnson, and Earline Shaw (twin sister); special friend: David Moore. He attended Horse Creek Church of God. He retired from Magnavox and MECO. His faith was important to him. He started each day with prayer and Bible study. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family. They brought a sparkle to his eye. All through his life, he let them know how proud he was of them. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and listening to the whippoorwills. Farming was also a favorite pastime. He spent many hours putting up hay and tending to his cows. He enjoyed life to the fullest. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4-6PM at Jeffers Funeral Chapel Afton, and Thursday 12-2 PM at Horse Creek Church of God. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2PM, with Rev. Bobby Morrison officiating. Interment will follow in Horse Creek Church of God Cemetery. Pallbearers are grandsons.
