Howell Aulton Bowers Obituary (1924 - 2018)

Howell A. Bowers, 94, of Chuckey, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Laughlin Memorial Hospital. Born in Carter County, he was the son of Daniel and Bertha Bowers. He worked at Holston Ordinance during WWII and was an independent milk hauler for Pet Milk Co. He later retired from the Greene County Highway Department. He enjoyed farming and loved to play jokes on his friends and family. He will always be remembered FOR HIS upbeat character and his ability to make everyone feel like family when they were around him. He was preceded in death by his wife: Kathleen Brown Bowers; 8 siblings, brothers: Smith, Woodrow, Denver, and R.B. Bowers: sisters: Coriene Davis, Glenna Oliver, Hazel Kyker, Armitta Walker, and Wayne Adams, a special friend. Howell is survived by his son: Charles T. Bowers; daughter: Mary Elizabeth Renner; special grandchildren: Austin Bowers and Mary Sue Renner; granddaughter: Amber Hayes; great-grandchildren: Allison Hayes, Grace Hayes, Martin Hayes, Matthew Hayes, and Ethan Little; sisters-in-law and (companion and caregiver: Helen Brown) and Marie (Bill) Thompson; special nephew: George (Carolyn) Bowers; special nieces: Janice (Bob) Barnhill, Mildred Brown, and Linda (Dan) Dugger; close friends: David Teska, Josh Gibson, Cathy Armstrong, Teresa Adams, Jonathan Adams, and Justin Adams, and a host of other nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. There will be no formal visitation, as requested by Howell. Friends and family will meet at Jeffers Afton Chapel Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 1:30PM to go in procession to Pleasant Vale Cemetery for the 2PM graveside service. Rev. Richard Bowers and Rev. Roy Fowler will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Bobby Campbell, Dustin Barr, Ryan Babb, Jamie Lamons, Terry Wampler, Anthony Bowers, Johnny Turner, and Donald McAfee. Honorary pallbearers will be George Bowers, Ralph Bowers, Lynn Grubbvs, Kay Morley, Tony Bird, Claude Swatzell, Arlin Bowers, Jerry Ripley, Carroll Hensley, Gary Campbell, J.L. Lamons, Sam Metcalf, and Claude Phillips. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Joe Austin, Dr. Tyler Bailey and staff, Amedisys Home Health and Hospice, and the 4th floor nursing staff and Wound Care at LMH. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriner's or St. Jude's Children's Hospital. The family requests no food due to allergies.
