David Michael "Mikey" Wallace Obituary (1976

David Michael "Mikey" Wallace, 35, formerly of Greeneville, died Tuesday at Albuquerque Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M. Mikey passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday morning. For those that knew the night-owl Mikey and his adventures, leaving this world in his sleep, especially in the morning, would not have been a guess high on our list. Mikey was always ready for fun and had a very generous spirit. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and he is still making us laugh as we recall his experiences. He loved cheesy 1980s music, Hispanic Catholic art, and the writings of Hunter S. Thompson. He loved camping in mountains, and the beauty of the American West. He loved animals and was a monthly contributor to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. He was a veteran of the Iraq war, and was in the first wave of the 101st Airborne to begin Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he completed his tour and was awarded several medals honoring his service. Many of the things that he saw and did in service to our country had a profound effect on his life. Hackett, Kidwell, Nathan, T.J., Jason and Brent all knew him as a brother. He will be remembered by many as saying, "I have no friends, I only have family." Survivors include: his mother: Brenda G. Wallace of Greeneville; a sister and brother-in-law: Candace and Whit Whitehurst of Johnson City; a nephew: Parker Whitehurst; a grandmother: Emily "Gerry" Wallace of Greeneville; aunts and uncles: Bill and Molly Gaby, and Jack Gaby, all of Charlotte, N.C., Fred and Cindy Dolder, and Jay and Marsha Wallace, all of Atlanta, Ga., and Gregg and Linda Wallace of Bluff City; four cousins: Melissa and Elliott Goetz of Murfreesboro, Boone Wallace of Bluff City, and Jessica Gaby of Charlotte; special friends: Jason Hackett, Josh Kidwell, T.J. and Caroline Sullivan, Nathan Ransdale, and Jason Adams; and his loyal companion, his dog: Diezel. He was preceded in death by his father: B. Michael Wallace; and grandparents: Benjamin Wallace, and William and Jessie Gaby. The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the downtown chapel of Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service. At Mr. Wallace's request, his body will be cremated following the visitation. The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will convey military honors.
