SGM Hubert Dean Walker Sr. Obituary (2012)

Retired Sgt. Major Hubert Dean Walker Sr., 82, of Chuckey, passed away Monday at Four Oaks Assisted Living of Jonesborough. He retired as a sergeant major with the U.S. Army. Mr. Walker was the commander of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 42, and was a past East Division Commander for the State of Tennessee. He was a member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge, and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Andrew Johnson Post 1990. Mr. Walker was a member of Tusculum Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife: JoAnn Walker of Chuckey; four daughters and sons-in-law: DeeAnn and Max Blevins of Green Forest, Ark., Jeannie and Ronald Fertitta of Lafayette, La., Lynn and Joe Adcock of Cary, N.C., and Susan and David Turner of Chuckey; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Raymond and Julie Walker of Bulls Gap and Victor Evans of Tampa, Fla.; a daughter-in-law: Shirley Walker of Greeneville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and five brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law: James Brown of Limestone, Charles Brown of New Market, Joe Paul and Leona Brown of Maiden, N.C., Harold and Jean Brown of the Cassi community, Nancy Worley, Martha Shanks, and James Keys. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jack and Bonnie Walker; his wife: Barbara Ann Walker; a son: Hubert Dean Walker Jr.; and a brother: Bobby Joe Walker. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today and from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Friday at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service, Afton Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Earl McCosh will officiate. A committal service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Andrew Johnson National Cemetery. The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct a military graveside service. Honorary pallbearers will be Max Blevins III, Donnie Stephens Jr., Thomas Anderson, Thomas Walker, Hubert Dean Walker III, Joseph A. Adcock Jr., Keith Jenkins, and Jeremiah Walker.
